Narrate Stories to build empathy

Objective: Redesigning a series of three book covers. Solely dependent on typographic treatments for the title.

Strategy: chose to redesign three novels from the Orphans series because they narrate stories of what some orphans may go through, which builds empathy. V.C. Andrews’ books were very popular among young teen girls back in the 90’s, but have died out since then.

I focused on bringing three novels back to life: Butterfly, Brooke, and Crystal. My strategy concentrated on making the covers easily understood, yet remain relatable to the narrative because teens today have a shorter attention span. Therefore, I used initials to illustrate every character’s aspiration as well as the setting of the story in the background; in this case, New York city.
